Stay up to date with the latest weather forecast

If you are a ‘weather junkie’ like me you will appreciate these two quick and simple tools.

Many of you may have WeatherBug installed on your machines.  Do yourself a favor and uninstall it now (if you can).  WeatherBug is a strange beast and is classified by many as bloatware/malware/spyware, etc.  In any case it does push down ad content to your machine and take valuable CPU cycles away from more important work.

To remove WeatherBug go to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and remove it from there.  You WILL be begged repeatedly to leave the software installed - resist this temptation and remove it - you will thank me later.

So, now with WeatherBug uninstalled how do you stay in touch with the latest weather updates?  Easy - here are two valuable and free weather services which I use.

1. Google Weather - open a browser, go to www.google.com and in the search box enter “weather” followed by your zip code, ex: “weather 27513″.  You will get the current weather conditions along with a four day forecast.  This service works excellent from a smartphone so you can quickly get the current weather conditions and a forecast for anywhere.

2. WRAL - I have been a fan of Greg Fishel since moving to the area some 20 years ago.  I actually ran into him at the fair this past year - just a nice of a guy in person as you would expect.  When the chips are down, I always trust what Greg tells me.  Besides his jokes on the nightly broadcast are always worth a chuckle.  Since I trust Greg and his team to provide the best information around I frequently visit their website to get weather updates.    You can create an account on their website to receive emails about the latest news updates.  Once you create an account you can select what information feeds to receive, including weather alerts by county and even school closings (good to have if you have young ones like me.)  You can also add your cell phone number to receive text notifications which is an excellent way to stay in touch with the latest weather updates  - any new information is sent directly to your phone.  I have subscribed to this service for years and find it to be very accurate and informative without any unsolicited emails that normally accompany a service like this.

There you have it, two quick and easy ways to stay in touch with the latest weather without having to constantly watch a weather service of have bloatware, like WeatherBug, installed on your machine.
