Stopping Adware
|

Our customers frequently find that their computers have "adware", or "spyware", programs running on them without our customers' knowledge. These programs are typically pretty benign, but can cause popup and other ads to appear on your computer, and in some cases can track your web browsing habits and deliver those results to a remote location. Some of these items are legitimate parts of programs that you may have installed on your computer, without which those programs will not function correctly....but some are simply a nuisance, at best, and many can jeopardize your privacy while you're on the internet.
We found and tested several adware identification and removal tools, and the one that we found to be the most useful was Lavasoft's Ad-Aware. This tool, which installs and runs on all versions of Windows except Windows 95, searches the memory, registry, and disk drives on your computer for potential adware, alerts you to any likely adware programs it finds, and allows you to quarantine or remove these programs.
