Protecting Yourself from Email Viruses
Email viruses can easily infect your computer and affect its performance, cause damage to files you've saved, or even render your computer totally unusable. You should take precautions to protect yourself from computer virus infections.
Use an antivirus program. We highly recommend using an antivirus protection program such as F-Secure, Norton Antivirus or McAfee VirusScan to protect your computer from infection. These programs will protect you not only from email viruses, but also from spyware and other exploits that can attack your computer through web site downloads; viruses on files transferred to your computer via disks; etc. In order to be effective, your antivirus program MUST be kept updated by downloading the latest sets of virus definition files whenever they become available.
Use PortBridge's antivirus filter.
PortBridge's antivirus filter can be used to block potentially infected incoming mail before it is delivered to your mailbox. This filter inspects each incoming email, compares the contents of the email with our database of known viruses, and flags it if it appears to be infected. By setting the aggressiveness of the antivirus filter to High, you can also block email messages that have the attributes of an infected email (for instance, an attachment with a .EXE extension). You can turn on and configure the antivirus filter by going to webmail and clicking on My Account, then clicking on Virus.
IMPORTANT: No antivirus program or filter can guarantee that you will not get infected with viruses. By definition, antivirus programs can only protect you from known viruses, so you are NOT protected from new viruses that have not yet been identified and entered into the database of known viruses that an antivirus program uses.
