Setting up your connection to PortBridge on Windows NT

NOTE: As of June 30 2003, Windows NT Workstation is no longer officially supported by Microsoft. This means that Microsoft may not offer fixes for potential future problems with this operating system, and troubleshooting support for this operating system will not be available in some cases. PortBridge Internet recommends that all users upgrade to a currently supported version of the Windows operating system.

Step 1: Installing Dial-Up Networking

If Dial-Up Networking is already installed on your computer skip to Step 2   

  1. Double click My Computer icon on your desktop — Double click Dial-Up Networking
  2. A Window explaining what DUN is will appear.  Click Install

If no modem is installed a prompt to run RAS setup will appear.  Click Yes

  1. Follow the on screen instructions to install your modem
  2. You will see a Add RAS Device window.  Select your modem and click OK
  3. You will see the Remote Access Setup window.  Click OK
  4. Click Restart to reboot your computer

Step 2: Setting up PortBridge in the Phonebook

  1. Double click My Computer icon on your desktop — Double click Dial-Up Networking
  2. If this is the first time you have used DUN a message will appear that states your Phonebook is empty.  Click OK to add an entry.  If you have used DUN click New to add a PortBridge entry
  3. The New Phonebook Entry Wizard will appear.  Name the entry PortBridge and click Next
  4. Choose I am calling the Internet and click Next
  5. Enter an Access Number to login to PortBridge
  6. Click Next and then click Finish      

Step 3: Configure PortBridge

  1. Open Dial-Up Networking Phonebook and select PortBridge from the Phonebook entry to dial drop down menu
  2. Click More and select Edit Entry and Modem Properties
  3. Click Server tab
  4. Dial-Up Server Type should be: PPP: Windows NT, Internet ....
  5. Make sure PPP LCP extensions are disabled
  6. Make sure TCP/IP is the only selected choice under Allowed network protocols
  7. Click TCP/IP Settings
  8. Make sure you have Server Assigned IP Address and Server Assigned Name Server Addresses selected — Both options at the bottom should be selected
  9. Click OK
  10. Click Security tab and select Accept any authentication including Clear Text
  11. Click Basic tab and click Configure button.  Make sure Use modem compression is not checked.  Click OK all the way out to My Computer

Step 4: Connecting to PortBridge for the First time

  1. Double click on My Computer icon on your desktop
  2. Double click Dial-Up Networking Folder
  3. Select PortBridge as the entry to dial
  4. Click Dial and enter Username and Password — Select Save Password
  5. Do not enter a domain name — Click OK
